Housing For Alternative Lifestyles
What are alternative lifestyles and why would they require alternative housing? To answer the first part it is easiest to give examples. Then the answer to the second part becomes self evident.
One winter we were Camping in our conversion van at a hot springs area in Arizona. We met a man who sold stuffed animals on the side of the highway. Having been through a bad divorce, and having little money, he was living in the van at places like these hot springs. Every day he drove off to the nearest highways and set up his stuffed animals for sale. He claimed to have sold $4,000 worth the first month, so his low cost living meant he could save the money and get back on his feet.
Meanwhile, another neighbor at the hot springs was living in his old RV. He had a house, but he preferred to supplement his social security by renting it out. This meant he lived in his RV for a few weeks at each location, often for free, and spent evenings sitting around campfires talking to travelers like us.
A friend of ours lived in a shack that he built for $3,000 on a small piece of land he bought for $7,000. He was there for enough time to pay off the land and sell it for a profit. This is illegal in many areas, of course, because of things like occupancy permits and minimum square footage requirements. Usually, however, you can camp on your land, so a $2,000 used RV parked on your land makes for a cheap and legal housing alternative.
Other Housing For Alternative Lifestyles
Alternative lifestyle doesn't mean "low income" of course. There are other reasons for living differently and needing different types of housing. Whether to save money, to travel, to live creatively - there are many reasons why people choose to live in Tents, RVs, cabins, underground homes, rental rooms and anything else that's less common than the houses, condos and apartments that most people call home. Here are a few more of these housing options.
- RV Boondocking. I've talked to people living in Rvs that cost $200,000 and ones that cost $600, so the selection of accommodations is varied, to say the least.
- Permanent travelers. Housing is whatever works for the moment for those who work various jobs as the travel.
- Houseboats. There are whole communities of people living on houseboats, and they usually don't have to pay property taxes.
- Basements. Even some people with good incomes choose to live in the basement as they build the house above for cash. No mortgage sounds nice, doesn't it?
- Log cabin squatting. Yes, there really are people living out there in the national forests, moving when they get caught every five or ten years.
- School busses. Apparently old busses sell cheap. We met three young men who lived in one in the deserts of Arizona, and anywhere else they could park it for a month.
- Offices. A couple I know almost moved into the office building they owned. It was on the river and had showers, so why not? One less mortgage too.
A national magazine recently did a write-up on people who lived in the jungles of Hawaii. Rents are high in Hawaii, and life on the beach is good - at least for younger people who can tolerate Camping out for years. Alternative lifestyles and alternative housing are often more for the younger crowd. Then again, tell that to the tens of thousands of retirees living in RVs.

The Hottest Billiard Halls in America
Playing billiards is an extremely popular pastime, both in America and abroad. Although the game has been with us for a very long time, there has been an incredible resurgence in interest surrounding the game in recent years. The pool halls of today are markedly different from those of yesteryear, due mainly to the increasing popularity of the game.
Pool players today demand a different sort of pool hall. Gone are the days of smoky pool halls filled with shady characters and shifty crooks. The pool hall owners of today are making valiant efforts to meet the needs of their new found customers. The billiard aficionados of today have a higher set of expectations, and many pool hall owners have made great strides to get with the times. It is not uncommon to find a restaurant or a martini bar inside the modern pool hall.
Slate is one such example. After receiving a much-anticipated renovation back in 2000, it has become one of the hottest pool spots in New York City. With over 16,000 square feet of space on two floors, Slate is one of the most unique and exciting places in the city. It boasts a massive 54 foot glass bar, a full seRVice restaurant, 30 championship pool tables, a stellar sound system, and a collection of plasma TV's placed throughout the venue. It also has an incredible glass staircase in the shape of a pool triangle. Believe the hype; Slate is the place to be and be seen.
The Continental Modern Pool Lounge is another fine establishment. It is located in Arlington, Virginia and is quite possibly the funkiest billiard room in America. This venue is the perfect combination of fun and sportsmanship. The décor speaks volumes about the type of establishment they are trying to operate. It is very much a 70's inspired spot, reminiscent of The Jetsons or something to that effect. This pool hall is, without a doubt, a flashback from way back.
There are three main things that separate a good pool hall from a great pool hall; respect for the game, quality equipment, and stylish décor. Shakespeare's Pub and Billiard Room in Denver, Colorado is without a doubt, a great pool hall. They have an excellent menu, a fine selection of ale and lager, and some of the best equipment and players in America. It is not uncommon to discover some of the best and brightest players playing alongside relative beginners. Shakespeare's is considered one of America's top pool spots, even garnering a recent mention in USA Today. If you are ever in Denver, be sure to drop in for a game and a pint.

10 Benefits Of Using Power Vibration Plates
You may not be familiar with vibration plates which are also referred to as power vibration plates but it won't be long before they're as familiar as rowing machines. They represent the very latest developments in fitness equipment and you can now buy them from all the best sports equipment suppliers so all the benefits of state of the art technology are available for your home gym. Vibration power plates may be new to the home gym market but they come with an impressive pedigree.
Nasa astronauts nowadays make use of vibration plates in their training. They're already fit people to start with of course but they need to get even fitter. They need to improve flexibility and strength in their bodies and it's been found that power plates are an ideal way of achieving this. This works because vibration power plates help to develop muscles and enhance co-ordination. Superb co-ordination is an essential quality in anyone who aspires to be an astronaut and we lesser mortals find it very useful too.
So there's four benefits of using a power vibration plate. You get better bodily flexibility and increased strength. You develop all your muscles and your co-ordination gets better. That's not a bad start but it doesn't end there.
Whatever level of fitness you start from. You'll get the benefits of developing muscle power, stimulating the metabolism, thereby losing some weight, and just improving your overall health and fitness. Moreover you'll maintain the improvements. That's eight benefits from using power vibration plates so far, and you're not even aiming to be an astronaut. Or maybe you are, one shouldn't make such assumptions!
The benefits don't end there, there's more to come. Power plates are a great help in improving the circulation of blood which is good for anyone. Ladies in particular; many of you often feel stressed about the presence cellulite in certain areas. You can gain two benefits at once! The aforementioned improvement in circulation will help you to get rid of the cellulite and regular use of a power vibration plate has proved to be a great reducer of stress levels generally. That's another three benefits making eleven so far though some may argue that one or two are really being quoted twice.
That being the case let's keep on looking at the benefits of using vibration power plates. One such benefit is time. You'll find that by using power vibration plates your total time spent on training can be reduced without losing any of the benefits. Another is effort saved. The effort needed to use power plates is quite a bit less than that required for other forms of training. Then there's osteoporosis in later life which can afflict anyone. Regular use of one of these amazing pieces of kit should help to considerably reduce the likelihood of this most debilitating condition developing. It does so by encouraging the build up of mineral density in the bones.
As if that wasn't enough, the use of a power vibration plate can help prevent you developing varicose veins in your limbs. On top of all that you'll find that, not only are you not likely to sustain injuries from their use, but with their correct use, recovery from injuries sustained elsewhere is much quicker than would otherwise be the case.
When you think about it that also suggests that if you suffer from some old injury or disability that makes it difficult or even impossible to use other types of gym equipment, power vibration plates may be just what you need. It's worth arty anyway.
Vibration plates are ideally suited for use in a home gym because they take up very little space. All you need is room for the base that you stand on with its upright column and hand grips so you don't need much floor space.
If you're equipping your home gym from scratch you may find that if you make a power vibration plate the first piece of equipment you install you won't need anything else so yet another benefit may well be a considerable saving in expense.
That won't be right for everyone of course. It depends on what your targets are and what the purpose of your training might be, but in any case it'll get you off to a great start.
The trouble with trying to set out a given number of benefits to be gained from using these machines is that the more you look into it, the more benefits keep popping up. Vibration power plates haven't been around all that long and there's little doubt that as time goes by and more and more of them are in use ever more benefits will become apparent.

Vango – a tent for all seasons
Firstly, Vango has four decades of experience in innovative tent design. All along, they have been at the forefront of camping research, with things like their patented TBS (tension banding system) to add superior stability and wind-resistance to even the most kite-like of tunnel tents. In addition, Vango tents are lightweight, roomy and affordable - all top scoring points for families looking for ways to have a quality holiday in the great outdoors.
Vango truly does make tents for all seasons - and for all environments. If you're planning a festival trip, they have a stunning selection of tepee styles that are ideal for festival-goers of all ages. One is modelled on the exact Native American design, and is guaranteed to stand out on a packed campsite. Besides their stand-out visual appeal, tepees have a practical purpose too: the unique shape means there's plenty of head height, but no wasted heat. Plus, they're fun to decorate - a great way of keeping kids amused while you relax.
Vango uses the latest tunnel designs on their family tents - but they've kept a close eye on the modular market too. For example, the Vango Colorado is one of the few traditional pod designs left on the camping scene - and as popular as ever. Maybe this is because everyone gets their own sleeping area, in a zone that's well away from noisy snorers or annoying brothers and sisters. Pod or modular-design tents have largely been usurped by tunnel tents, which are easier to erect and offer integrated bedrooms within the main enclave. While this makes the tent light and user friendly, and the bedrooms warmer, many still prefer the privacy and seclusion that modular designs offer.
Tunnel tents became a necessity as tent sizes became ever larger, in response to the growing popularity of family and group camping holidays. Many of the huge, dome-style tents were simply too big for the campsites they were on. Tunnel tents, where the bedrooms are internal rather than attached as pods, have largely solved this problem, without sacrificing living space. However, there are Vango tents that incorporate the best features of both concepts. Their Salonga tent, for example, has a tunnel construction but separated-out bedrooms, giving one or more members of the group their own space without affecting the streamlined structure. The addition of a porch adds a further dimension - and makes the tent more resistant in a gale.
Vango has entered the 21st century of family camping with its range of technical family tents. The Nevis, for example, is modelled on the popular Tigris model and incorporates Vango's unique tension band system, but incorporates lightweight alloy poles, a higher hydrostatic head and a larger living area.
We at Outdoor World Direct stock a full range of ultra-light Vango tents, from one-man low-slung expedition tents, to the latest Technical range which comfortably house four or more people under as little as 14 kg of poles and fabric.

Mobile Marketing a New Age Strategy
More and more companies seem to be looking for new and innovative ways to market their products. Overlooking most of the traditional marketing techniques, more companies are pioneering the relatively new mobile marketing campaign. Mobile event trailers and vehicle graphic wraps are bringing the products directly to the consumers. With an array of games, giveaways, contests and twenty-five foot product shots surrounding and engaging the consumer, it’s hard to see why this form of marketing is not more widely used.
Displays have evolved over the years from small trailers with portable pop-up Tents, into 53’ double expandable trailers with elaborate Tents and almost endless customizable features. Most companies love the infinite possibilities and are striving to push the limits and raising the bar just a little bit higher. Some displays now are featuring stages, full size kitchens, restrooms, conference rooms and not to mention an influx of multimedia gadgets.
Vehicle wraps have engulfed the United States with eye catching and memorable four-color digital brilliance. Receiving upwards of 40,000 impressions a day these modern maRVels can give you more bang for your buck. Showcasing product shots and company slogans as moving billboards is a relatively inexpensive and aggressive way to market your companies image, and is certain to pay off in the end.
With the amount of competition businesses are facing now a days no wonder there is so much emphasis placed on new and innovative ways to market their products. More money is being spent on marketing then ever before, blowing standard marketing techniques out of the water. Creating a ground-breaking strategy can catapult a company past its competitors.

How To Throw A Tea Party
Tea parties are a great way to gather a few close friends for a timeless tradition. Begin by sending out invitations 3 weeks in advance. Purchase tablecloths and other decorations to match your theme.
Designate a tea table and place the tea sets, which include cups, saucers and teaspoons on one end of the table. Place the teapot, sugar, lemon, milk and hot water (to dilute the tea if desired) by the tea sets. Your guests may either seRVe themselves or you may choose to seRVe the tea yourself. Either way, if sugar and lemon are to be added to tea, add the sugar before the lemon because the acidity of the lemon will prevent the sugar from dissolving. It’s best to prepare the tea in a teapot as it will taste better as loose leaves, not in tea bags.
In the middle of the table, place cookies, cakes, muffins and scones on platters and cake stands. You may also include small sandwiches, such as egg, cucumber and cream cheese, tuna or chicken sandwiches. To serve, layer the filling between two slices of bread and cut them into fourths.
If all your guests are sitting at the same table, lay the plates, napkins and utensils on the dining table. Otherwise, place them by the food.
Themes for tea parties are endless! Below are some ideas:
Garden and hat: host the party outside in your garden, and ask your guests to wear a tea hat! It’s also okay to serve sorbet and lemonade outdoors.
Color and flavor: everything, from invitations, tablecloths, flowers, centerpieces, cakes, cookies, scones, jam and the tea itself is one color and flavor. Possible colors and flavors can include apricot, lemon, lavender, rose, peaches, strawberries, orange, pumpkins and blueberries.
Cakes and cookies: have your guests bring their favorite cakes or cookies and place them on platters and cake stands.
World cultures: tea is a tradition found all over the globe. Perhaps serve Indian Chai with samosas, green tea with Japanese rice cakes and mochi, or jasmine tea with Chinese dumplings and dim sum.
After the party, you can send your guests off with party favors. Some favorites include a teacup and saucer set, or a teaspoon with loose tea leaves in an organza drawstring bag.
Whichever theme you decide on, and whether formal or casual, gather your friends for some piping-hot tea, sweet finger foods and plenty of wonderful memories!
